# Loot Boxes

Some monsters drop **Loot Boxes** instead of ordinary items - and opening one is a small event in itself. A Loot Box rolls a random piece of equipment, complete with its own rarity and bonus options, right there on the ground.

## How they work

1. A monster drops a Loot Box, which lands on the ground like any other drop.
2. For a brief moment the box **cannot be picked up** - this is the "reveal" pause.
3. The box then **opens by itself**, rolling **one** weighted reward from its contents.
4. The reward - a piece of **equipment** - drops on the ground where the box was, showing its rarity effects.

You never carry an unopened box around; it always opens itself on the spot.

## Rarity and beacons

The equipment a box produces is rolled with the **same rarity and bonus-option system as a normal monster equipment drop**. Equipment rarity goes, from lowest to highest: **Common**, **Forged**, **Distinguished**, **Artifact**, and **Aincrad Relic**.

Better results are visually obvious: items above Common land with a colored **pillar of light** and a sound, so you will know instantly when a box coughs up something special.

| Rarity        | Beacon color |
| ------------- | ------------ |
| Aincrad Relic | Orange       |
| Artifact      | Purple       |
| Distinguished | Blue         |
| Forged        | Green        |
| Common        | (none)       |

## Tips

* **Wait for the open.** You cannot grab the box itself - just stay nearby and let it reveal its prize.
* **Watch for the pillar.** A bright beam means a rare item dropped - grab it before someone else does.
* Loot Box rewards respect normal loot priority, so the box's owner gets first claim on what it produces.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://aincrad-legacy.gitbook.io/aincrad-legacy-docs/economy-and-social/loot-boxes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
