# Choosing Your Role

In Aincrad Legacy every Adventurer commits to a **combat role** - the single most important choice you make about how you play.

## When and where

When you reach **Character Level 10**, you automatically receive the quest **"Adventurer's Company: Choose Your Role"** in your quest window (Alt+U). It points you to the **AC Recruiter**.

Talk to the recruiter and choose one of the three core roles:

* [**Damage Dealer**](/aincrad-legacy-docs/combat-roles/damage-dealer.md) - deal the most damage, take the most risk.
* [**Tanker**](/aincrad-legacy-docs/combat-roles/tank.md) - the durable frontline that holds the enemy.
* [**Supporter**](/aincrad-legacy-docs/combat-roles/support.md) - empower your allies and weaken your enemies.

The recruiter explains each role's identity and effects before you commit, so take your time and read them.

## Changing your role later

Your choice is **not permanent**. You can return to the AC Recruiter at any time to switch to a different core role.

> **Important:** switching roles resets your **Adventure Level** back to 1. Your **Character Level** is never affected. Switch when you want a new playstyle, but be ready to rebuild your role mastery.

## What comes after

Each core role later branches into **advanced roles** that specialize your playstyle even further. See [Advanced Roles](/aincrad-legacy-docs/combat-roles/advanced-roles.md) once you are comfortable with your core role.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://aincrad-legacy.gitbook.io/aincrad-legacy-docs/getting-started/choosing-your-role.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
