# Collections

The **Collection** system rewards you for gathering and donating items from across the world. Complete a collection and that character unlocks a **permanent power boost** that never goes away.

## How it works

* Each **floor or region** has its own collection.
* The floor's collection NPC opens a special **collection window**.
* You **deposit** the items that collection requires. Deposited items are **consumed** - they are spent into the collection, not stored.
* A collection's bonus unlocks **only when you have completed every item** in it. It is all-or-nothing.

## Permanent and global

Collection bonuses are:

* **Permanent** - once unlocked, progress never decreases and the bonus is yours for good.
* **Global** - the bonus applies everywhere, not just on the floor where you earned it.
* **Per-character** - your collection progress belongs to that character.

## There is no storage to reclaim

A collection is **not a storage box**. Items you deposit are gone - they are the cost of unlocking the bonus. Only deposit items you are willing to spend permanently.

## Why bother

Collections are one of the best long-term investments in the game. Every completed collection makes your character permanently stronger, and they give you a reason to hold onto and hunt for items you might otherwise vendor. As you climb the floors, each new region's collection is a fresh milestone to chase.

> Tip: keep an eye on which items each floor's collection wants before you sell your loot - you may be vendoring a piece you need.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://aincrad-legacy.gitbook.io/aincrad-legacy-docs/progression/collections.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
